VOLUNTEER WITH MAYAMIKO

"Working with Mayamiko has helped to change my perspective on many aspects of ethical business. It helped me to realise how important it is for organisations both here, in the UK, and else where in the world  to be aware of their social as well as physical surroundings. Every business affects at least one community and Mayamiko affects theirs in the best of ways. It was a pleasure to work with them and the various craft and trade, men and women of Lilongwe."
Tom Treacher, Volunteer in Malawi, 2012

Nothing is more important to the success of our training program than our generous volunteers, who have selflessly dedicated their time and skills to working with our trainees at The Fashion Lab in Lilongwe.

If you believe as strongly as we do in the need for social justice, if you have technical skills in areas like tailoring, pattern making, fashion, international development, outsourcing, business or project management, ethical production, and you are looking for a life changing experience in Malawi, we would simply love to hear from you!

It’s a plain and simple reality that not all of us are in the position to physically relocate ourselves. If you would like to volunteer with us, but cannot for whatever reason consider working with our trainers in Malawi, there are an endless number of other ways you can help – from ensuring that we get our message out there, to liaising with international resellers and helping with our fundraising campaigns and events. So if you want to donate your skills and time, we need you! Some of our previous volunteers have had expertise in fashion, retail, branding, fund raising, graphic design, social media, PR, events management, monitoring & evaluation, community development, capacity building, training etc.
If you think you might be able to help out in some way from where you are, please do get in touch.

"I was thrilled to work directly with Mayamiko a few summers ago in Malawi.  I was able to see first hand what a huge difference their work with the communities in Malawi made.  Women were able to train and develop sewing skills to help support themselves and their children, jobs that would not have been available without the program.  Using fabrics and designs from Malawi, Mayamiko creates exciting and fashionable pieces that all involved making can feel good about.  I am lucky to have been part of the team for a short while and would continue to support their efforts and helping the women and children of Malawi."
Christ Comes Out Bird, Designer, Artist and Writer

"I was lucky enough to visit Malawi in 2008 and what I saw stayed in my eyes and in my heart. I saw wonderful children and strong women. I saw their daily hardships. Mayamiko is working to improve their life and give them options for a better future: this is why I support Mayamiko wholeheartedly."
