‘Mayamiko’ is the Chewa work for praise - accordingly we believe that the most effective way forward for communities facing economic and social hardship is not to compensate for what they lack through aid, but encourage and nurture what they already have: a wealth of creative talents and a willingness to learn. All they need is the opportunity to develop. That is what we are here for. To offer choices. Choices come in many forms: education, access to finance, access to tools or simply a supportive environment.
Our mission is to empower disadvantaged communities by providing them with the skills, training and education they need to thrive. We are also working to end the injustices which stand in their way by promoting fairer trade practices.
To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public by:
- The relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially disadvantaged communities in all parts of the world and particularly in Africa
- The promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration in all parts of the world and particularly in Africa
- The relief of unemployment for the benefit of the public in such ways as may be thought fit including assistance to find employment in such parts of the world including Africa as the Trustees may from time to time think fit.
- To relieve sickness and financial hardship and to promote and preserve good health including but not by way of limitation those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind including through the provision of counselling and support in Africa and everywhere Mayamiko works .
